Kick-off in the Chancellery Signal for the industrial healthcare sector

Today, the Federal Government invited representatives from the pharmaceutical and medical technology industries to the Federal Chancellery to kick off the joint strategy process.

The Association of the Diagnostics Industry (VDGH) expressly welcomes the fact that the announced dialog process is now beginning. The VDGH has long advocated a national MedTech strategy and sees this as an important step towards strengthening the industrial healthcare sector.

"The fact that pharmaceuticals and medical technology are now being considered together in a strategic process is an important industrial policy signal," explains Dr. Martin Walger, Managing Director of the VDGH. "As part of the medtech sector, the diagnostics industry stands for innovative strength, security of supply and highly qualified jobs. It is crucial that this process is now swiftly backed up with concrete measures: We need a noticeable reduction in bureaucracy, reliable framework conditions and a policy that enables innovation instead of slowing it down."

The VDGH welcomes the cross-departmental nature of the strategy process. Within a year, economic, research and healthcare policy and industry are to work out joint results that will lead to a cabinet decision.
