The VDGH welcomes this reorientation because it improves patient management, enables resources to be used in a more targeted manner and can increase the quality of care in acute cases. From the point of view of the diagnostics industry, the consistent use of point-of-care testing (POCT) is a key element of modern emergency care: POCT makes it possible to detect critical conditions such as cardiac events, sepsis or respiratory infections at an early stage and to manage care pathways based on evidence. For successful implementation, the VDGH is calling for POCT to be explicitly anchored in the statutory and sub-statutory regulations - in particular in the framework recommendations in accordance with Section 133b SGB V - as a component of medical emergency rescue.

As a trade association, the German Diagnostics Industry Association (VDGH) represents the interests of more than 100 companies operating in Germany with a total turnover of 6.8 billion euros in 2022. They manufacture examination systems and reagents for the diagnosis of human diseases, which generate a turnover of more than 3.5 billion euros, as well as instruments, reagents, test systems and consumables for research in the life sciences, which generate a turnover of 3.3 billion euros.
