LSR press release New chairman, new figures, new blog

The general meeting of the Life Science Research (LSR) division of the Association of the Diagnostics Industry (VDGH) took place today, at which the board was newly elected.

Dr. Anette Leue was elected as the new Chairwoman of the Executive Board. She holds a doctorate in biology and is Head of Digital Marketing and Communications at Promega GmbH, Walldorf.

"We will make our industry more tangible and demonstrate its benefits to politics and society. To this end, we will place a stronger focus on key topics such as cell and gene therapy, the shortage of skilled workers and sustainability in the work of the Executive Board," explains Leue.

Dr. Axel Jahns, Eppendorf SE, and Dr. Peter Schüßler, Thermo Fisher Scientific GmbH, were elected as deputies. Dr. Franziska Freund, Thermo Fisher Scientific - Life Technologies GmbH, and Gerhard Hofer, QIAGEN GmbH, are new additions to the Executive Board of the specialist department, while Dr. Oliver Goldenberg, Illumina GmbH, and Martina Klapperbein-Mischok, Merck Chemicals GmbH, were re-elected.

Dr. Henning Menke, Hamilton Germany GmbH and Dr. Thomas Möllenkamp, NEB GmbH as well as the long-standing chairman Dr. Peter Quick, Promega GmbH did not stand for re-election. VDGH Managing Director Dr. Martin Walger thanked the three of them on behalf of the entire specialist department for their many years of successful service.

Balance sheet 2022

The previous year's balance sheet was also presented at the members' meeting: the industry generated a turnover of 3.24 billion euros in 2022. This represents another increase, this time of 2.3 percent. The LSR companies in the VDGH develop customized instruments, reagents, test systems and consumables that meet the needs of researchers in the life sciences. LSR technologies played a key role in the successful development of laboratory tests and vaccines during the pandemic.

New blog: We Live Research

The new blog "We Live Research" was also presented. On this blog, members of the LSR department will not only provide fascinating insights into the world of applied research, but also demonstrate its importance in everyday life.

As a trade association, the German Diagnostics Industry Association (VDGH) represents the interests of more than 100 companies operating in Germany with a total turnover of 5.4 billion euros in 2023. They manufacture examination systems and reagents for the diagnosis of human diseases, which generate a turnover of more than 2.3 billion euros, as well as instruments, reagents, test systems and consumables for research in the life sciences, which generate a turnover of 3.1 billion euros.
